Auckland / Wellington, New Zealand – 24 November 2025 – Carbon Foundation NZ Limited has announced the launch of its registry presence on the New Zealand Emissions Trading Register (NZETR), marking a significant milestone in the organisation’s plans to scale high-integrity climate finance and carbon markets across the Asia–Pacific region.
The new account, registered under Account Holder: Carbon Foundation NZ Limited with Account Number: NZ-16478, can be accessed via the New Zealand Emissions Trading Register website at www.emissionsregister.govt.nz, the government-run platform that records the holding and transfer of emissions units under New Zealand’s Emissions Trading Scheme. emissionsregister.govt.nz+2epa.govt.nz
Strengthening New Zealand’s role in global climate finance
By establishing a dedicated account on the NZETR, Carbon Foundation NZ Limited positions New Zealand as a strategic node in a broader international framework of compliance-grade carbon registries and climate-aligned financial products.
The NZETR, administered through the Environmental Protection Authority, is the core infrastructure for tracking emissions units (NZUs) and other eligible instruments within New Zealand’s Emissions Trading Scheme, ensuring that unit holdings and transfers are recorded with transparency and legal certainty. epa.govt.nz+2epa.govt.nz
Carbon Foundation NZ Limited’s registry presence is intended to support:
Integration with national policy frameworks while aligning with emerging international standards for carbon accounting and Article 6-compatible market mechanisms.
Forward-looking climate investment structures, including green finance instruments and long-term sequestration projects, using New Zealand as a trusted jurisdiction.
Robust market infrastructure, anchored in a government-operated register that already underpins New Zealand’s Emissions Trading Scheme.
Local leadership: Hugh Riddiford appointed Director in New Zealand
The registry launch is overseen in New Zealand by Mr Hugh Riddiford, Director of Carbon Foundation NZ Limited.

A platform for future growth
The launch of the Carbon Foundation NZ Limited account on the New Zealand Emissions Trading Register represents an important operational step in the broader development of The Carbon Foundation’s global architecture for high-integrity carbon markets and climate solutions.
By pairing local expertise in forestry and land-use transformation through leadership such as Mr Riddiford’s, with international ambitions for rigorous climate finance, the organisation aims to help position New Zealand as a cornerstone jurisdiction in the next generation of carbon market infrastructure.
